Media literacy is defined as an access to different written and unwritten messages and the ability of analyzing, evaluating, transmitting all those messages. This definition is connected with media and education association but it also has wider meaning. Media literacy is not only about gaining ability but also underline the emptiness of “judgemental and democratic citizenship" in the society. It can be seen as an educational problem as much as political and ideological preference. In relation to this definition it is predicted that individuals will become more active and more questioning which is democratic pre-condition for conscious citizenship.

It is very important that educational institutions raise people who are critical, advocate of change, can evaluate the changes and perceive democracy way of life. Democracy is more than a régime; it is a philosophy and manner of living. In this way democratic person is a reformist and open to changes, who is not captive of dogmas but skeptical, researcher and independent thinker. Authoritarian person who is just opposite of democratic person is dogmatic, solid, suspicious who reacts with prejudgment, submits to superstitions and authority. It means they cover all anti-democratic behaviors.

In order to this theoretical frame, it is aimed to examine the correlation between Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University students’ media literacy levels, democratic intelligence and authoritarian personality. It will be studied if there is any significant difference with the students’ media literacy levels, democratic intelligence and authoritarian personality according to gender, branch, grade level, the school has been graduated and socio-economical background variables.
