Self-Esteem and Academic Achievement

The concept of self-esteem has become the topic of much debate in educational and psychological circles in recent years. The main question of the present study was: Is there any association between self-esteem and Academic achievement among high school students. Method: Participants were 355 high school students of Gorgan. The mean age of the participants was 16.7 years (SD = 4.58) and ages ranged from 15 to 19 years old. They were 199 girl and 156 boy. Measures: All participants completed a questionnaire booklet containing two scale: Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965) and a teacher-made test.Results:1-Correlation between self-esteem and Academic achievement is meaningful and positive (r=0.459).2-Self-esteem of boy students are meaningfully greater than girl students.
