How can web based patient health care education delivery be improved for weight management? Obesity is a major precursor to diabetes, heart disease, joint problems, depression, and social isolation. An extensive literature review was conducted in addition to a review of patient information delivery programs at The Permanente Medical Group. After reviewing the literature and program results, it was concluded that patient care delivery requires patient’s pro-action. This is best accomplished by expanding the web based health education components under the supervision of a nurse. Nurses need to be involved in designing patient care systems. The effective integration of patients, nurses, and physicians in developing web based delivery of health education will lead to improved compliance behavior via the system’s monitoring by the nurse. Nurse Managers could cut down on staffing needed to monitor patient progress. An increase in the satisfaction of the nursing staff and patient satisfaction would be achieved. This article provides nurse managers with substantive information on how and why to implement web based delivery of patient education to improve the quality of life and longevity for the individual.

E-learning and health care are a major focuses of research. Decision Support Systems, Group Decision Making, Expert Systems, and Financial Management Information Systems are my specialty areas. Manpower management experience with hospitals provided a broad and in-depth background. Experience in Management and Control systems included work at Anderson consulting, military, and teaching. Experiences in Computer Systems included Data Base Management Systems at the University of Michigan, and consulting assignments. The artistic contribution to quantitative analysis was my goal. My view was to integrate the person in the system resulting in an improved quality of life.
