The power of performance based assessment has been well documented, yet it remains one of the lesser used means to determine depth of learning at the post-secondary level. Successful implementation requires careful consideration of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. It also requires us to assist post-secondary students in understanding how performance based assessment can enhance learning and achievement. Examples of performance based tasks and accompanying scoring guides will be shared along with a summary of research literature.
