Total Quality Management Implementation in UK and Cyprus Distance Education Institutes: A Comparative Study
This research aims to compare the perceptions of distance education institute members on Total Quality Management implementation between higher education institutions in Cyprus and the United Kingdom (UK). The basis for this research is the comparative case study approach, which is qualitative in nature. Data from interviews, self-reports and participant observations were used as the basis by thematic analysis in exploring the perceptions of two institutes’ members on TQM implementation. Research findings showed that the distance education institute in Cyprus practiced quality improvements without naming it as TQM implementation. On the other hand, the distance education institute in the UK worked to implement TQM strategically by purposefully working to improve the quality of the distance education institute.
