A Srceening for Vulnerability to Learning Disabilities in the First Grade

Goals for attendants to our presentation: (1) to acknowledge the work developed in Portugal, specifically by Fundação Renascer at Lisbon, related to Learning Disorders, its prevention, assessment and intervention; (2) to learn about a model of screening, for students, that gathers information from both children and their teachers, aiming Learning Disorders’ prevention by identifying at risk children, and that can be applied with a similar structure in other countries; (3) to learn about the importance of developing similar projects at nationwide level, to gather quality and quantity information for the characterization of the early childhood school population to redesign school programmes and make adequate Learning Disorders prevention programmes; (4) understand the efficacy of psychomotor intervention in students.
The goal of our project is to build a school Screening Programme applicable to any Portuguese school with the need to assess their students when starting 1st grade, aiming the identification and support of children at risk to develop a Learning Disorder.

Master in Early Intervention by Santiago de Compostela’s University (Faculty of Psychology, Spain). Doing doctoral thesis in Child Development Assessment.
