Knowledge Acquisition Comparison in Thai Metal Forming
In this paper we aim to show the knowledge acquisition of Thai metal forming die designers by comparing formal and informal learning processes. The experts for participation were selected from academics of Thai Tool and Die Industry Association (TDIA) and die designer leaders in the die industry network. The metaconcept applied from multilayered structure of design knowledge [1] , EBL: Explanation-Based Learning [2] and creative knowledge acquisition [3] for studied. We use semi-structured feedback interview technique for data acquiring and matrix base technique for analyze and conclusion. We found the experts got their die design knowledge from informal learning more than formal learning. The best knowledge source are Engineer/Senior technician training and Onsite practice/problem solving except the understanding in basic die principles and common part function they got from Outbound/Ownerâs technologies training. In this research, we only interested in process to get knowledge of experts for each level of die design knowledge. But in truth, the one(s) who want to become expert in die design knowledge they should be started from formal learning.
