Evaluation of Effects of 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Elementary School Students’ Science Project Studies on their Academic Success
Upon examination of the literature, it is known that project works have a significant place among the teaching of all branches. However, as we can not see any studies concerning the evaluation of science project studies on academic success, this study bears importance as it is carried out with the participation of 6th, 7th and 8th grade elementary school students and is contributing to the field.
The study is carried out using the methods of “description-survey”. A total of 60 students enrolled in the different elementary schools in Ankara have participated in the study. In the study, first test and last test (test of academic success) are used in the study. With the help of SPSS-15 package program, arithmetic average, standard deviation independent t-test and one-way analysis of variance are used in the analysis.
In the result of study, a significant difference is found for students enrolled in 6th, 7th and 8th grades in terms of the grade they are in. It is found that the students experience the feeling of success and, thanks to the projects developed in science lessons, have a better self assurance and develop efficient study behaviors. Therefore, the students have paid more attention to the subjects they like, which they are interested in and a rise in their success has been observed.
