LiveLMS is a tool which integrates virtual classroom environment with a learning management system. In other words, this tool aims to combine synchronous and asynchronous learning environments so that a single point management capability can be provided. More specifically, a teacher can organize online lectures by using this tool and keep track of students’ live performance besides asynchronous performance. Additionally, all resources (e.g. lecture recording, documents shared, etc) related to online lecture becomes accessible from LiveLMS even if the lecture ends. LiveLMS is essentially built on Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 - WSS 3.0 (i.e. learning management system) and MS Office Live Meeting Tool (i.e. virtual classroom environment). MS Office Live Meeting is a tool used to conduct online meetings with either individuals or large groups. On the other hand, WSS 3.0 is a technology that provides access to source code for customization to build your solution. In LiveLMS application, Office LM is utilized to conduct online lectures whereas WSS 3.0 is used as the base environment upon which LiveLMS is developed.
To sum up, LiveLMS can be used to support synchronous (real-time) learning in online classes with asynchronous (any-time) learning capabilities and provides rich set of performance data for evaluation purposes.
