Bringing Values to the Heart of Schooling: The Values Education Initiative in Australia, 2002-2009
Values, Values Education, Curriculum Resources
In 2002 the Australian government initiated research on values education in Australian schools that has produced a National Framework for values education in Australia and a multi-million dollar program to make values education a core part of schooling. In this workshop participants will be provided with an account of this values education initiative in Australia. The workshop will first explore both the genesis and the progress of the initiative. It will then review findings from a feature element of the program: the school-based research into good practice in values education. Finally participants will have an opportunity to interact with a selection of the curriculum materials that have been produced and distributed to Australian schools as part of the initiative.
