Education for Sustainable Development As a Permanent Process
Development of recognition of the overburdened natural environment and the limited purifying power of ecosystems has been developed for fifty years from awareness to the listing of key guidelines that should be included into all educational programs at all levels. The concept of environmental education has expended into education for sustainable development. It now impinges on all dimensions of human life and human activities. Unfortunately, people's actual behavior does not meet expectations of the sustainable-oriented society which should be responsible to the future generations. This has been proven with the results of many research works where students of different levels of education, their knowledge and their behavior towards the environment were examined. Some suggestions for the improvement of educational practices will be explained in the paper such as experiential learning in the natural environment, cooperation of schools and local community and also project work with authentic situation as a problem solving.
