Adult Leaners in Community Development Programs with a Focus on Learning Preferences

This study focuses on adult learners with specific learning styles preferences. This study provides in-depth information on the learning styles of adult learners participating in community development programs in Sabah. The findings from this study were: significant differences in 18 aspects of respondents’ learning preference style. These are noise level, temperature, design, motivation, persistent, responsible, structure, along/peers, authority figures, several ways, auditory, visual, kinesthetic, intake, time of day, late morning, afternoon and needs mobility; significant differences between male and female respondents in nine aspects of learning preferences. These are light, design, motivation, persistent, responsible, alone/peer, multiple ways, kinesthetic and needs mobility.

Dr. Roslee Abbas

Roslee Abbas has been teaching at the University Malaysia Sabah for 13 years. He earned his Bachelor's in Human Services and Master's in International Community Economics Development from the Southern New Hampshire University at Manchester, New Hampshire in 1988 and 1991 respectively. At present, he is a senior lecturer in Anthropology & Sociology program at the University Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia. Roslee Abbas teaches Psychology, Sociology, Community Development , Social Change and Family System at School of Social Sciences. In addition to his teaching experience, Mr.Abbas has served as a youth/marriage counselor, a president of C.H.I.L.D for an autistic center and specializes in educating students with learning disabilities. In the past 13 years Abbas' research includes Preferred Learning Styles of Adult Learners participating in KEMAS’ Community Development Program in Sabah, An Explanatory Study of Learning Preferences and Perceptions of Adult Learning in Okinawa (Rural) of Japan , Okinawa, Japan, Rural to Urban Youth Migrtion with a focus on Sabah Youth to Urban Cities in Malaysia, Research Project on Social Issues in Sabah : Phase I , Research Project on Social Issues in Sabah : Phase II, Peer Influence on Adolescents in Social Deviant Behavior. A Preliminary Case Study in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, The Effect of Migration on the livelihood of underdeveloped Community: A Case Study at Kobuni Villlage, Inanam, Sabah , Peer Influence on Juvenile Delinquency: A Survey at Inanam Tunas Bakti School, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, to name a few.
